Tattoos and Fashion Merge in "Maiden of the Month"

Metal Ink Stylizes Sexiness in a New Way. Tattoos and Fashion Merge
With Launch of 'Maiden of the Month' Alternative Beauty Contest

LOS ANGELES, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles-based Metal Ink launched the Maiden of the Month alt. beauty modeling contest on its website www.metalinkshop.com. Metal Ink, the world's 1st tattoo-inspired crowdsourcing graphic t-shirt company, created a monthly contest to foster positivity about body art subculture and alternative forms of beauty.

The Maiden of the Month contest provides a positive setting where female members of the Metal Ink community can embrace their sexuality in a fashion-forward way. Female members are invited to send in photographs wearing Metal Ink tees and underwear. Each contestant must upload 3 photos; one in which she must be wearing Metal Ink clothes, the 2nd a sexy upper body shot with full nudity, and the 3rd a sexy full body shot with partial nudity.

Qualified submissions are posted on the website for voting for a period of 30 days. Photos are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 by Metal Ink members who can also share comments. Members' scores and comments are used to help the Metal Ink crew make the final decision. The winning Maiden receives a cash prize of $700 and $300 in store credit. Winning Maidens also headline artsy, sexy fashion photo shoots with some nudity which will appear on the website. Select Maidens will use her signature tattoos to create a special line of tees with royalty. Metal Ink's first Maiden of the Month was Radeo, one of the most popular Suicide Girls, chosen by the staff (see photo). In June, the Maiden of the Month contest launches voting by members of Metal Ink.

Metal Ink is a cutting-edge line that recognizes the growing popularity of tattoo art subculture and alternative beauty. Metal Ink was born out of the desire to fuse body art and fashion and celebrate beyond the cover page beauties we see in popular magazines today. By putting the soup to nuts of t-shirt design and production in the hands of new and emerging talent, Metal Ink provides a creative, social platform for the tattoo community on the web.

Straight Up Nostalgia With A Twist, "The Fabric of My Life" Campaign Blends Familiar Music with Modern Fashion

Straight Up Nostalgia With A Twist, "The Fabric of My Life" Campaign Blends Familiar Music with Modern Fashion

April 7, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — As the country faces the cold, harsh realities of the global financial situation, Cotton Incorporated delivers consumers a soft, comforting bit of nostalgia, with a modern twist. The research and promotion company for U.S. cotton growers and importers has revived its memorable "the touch, the feel of cotton" music, reinterpreted for today's consumers by three young vocalists: Zooey Deschanel, Jazmine Sullivan, and Miranda Lambert. The new television commercials, created by DDB New York, began airing on April 5 as part of a marketing strategy that also includes print and Internet components.

The new commercials present a day-in-the-life montage of the vocalists' lives, scored with each artist's unique interpretation of the celebrated music and lyrics. Actress/singer Zooey Deschanel riffs contemporary with her take; five-time Grammy-nominated Jazmine Sullivan (21) lends her rhythm and blues style to the melody; Academy of Country Music's "Album of the Year" Winner and two-time Grammy nominee Miranda Lambert (24) delivers a country twist to the tune. The melody, recognizable to two generations of consumers, was retired in 2001 and was revived because "It's the right message at the right time," says Glenn Sciachitano, Director of Consumer Advertising at Cotton Incorporated.

"Since 2001, the company's advertising has stressed the fashionability, versatility and easy care benefits of cotton to the 18-34 female demographic ," says Sciachitano. "The new campaign retains that fresh, modern fashion focus, while paying tribute to the brand's rich heritage."

The new commercials illustrate the versatility of cotton by showing how it fits into the lives and wardrobe styles of three very different artists, whether they are walking the red carpet or simply engaging in their favorite everyday activities. The day-in-the-life montage of each performer is scored with a unique musical interpretation: Actress/ singer Zooey Deschanel (28) provides a retro pop sensibility with her take on the tune; two-time Grammy nominee Miranda Lambert (24) delivers a country twist; and five-time Grammy-nominated Jazmine Sullivan (21) lends her rhythm-and-blues style to the melody.

"People of all ages fondly remember the 'cotton song,'" says Ric Hendee, Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Cotton Incorporated. "With these new renditions, cotton gains a stylish, youthful energy which will help demonstrate that cotton is in the full range of today's fashion."

Internet components are slated to roll out in May and will include such interactive attractions as a Zooey Deschanel Stylebook, a look inside Miranda Lambert's closet, and a neighborhood shopping guide by Jazmine Sullivan. "The Fabric of My Life" micro-site will be an off-shoot of the company's consumer Web site, TheFabricOfOurLives.com. The print campaign, launching this summer, will feature stills of all three artists in cotton wardrobe from the commercial shoot, along with notes from the singers about each garment.

"'The Fabric of My Life' is a totally integrated campaign that combines the best of the old and new for Cotton Incorporated. It takes the powerful equity of 'The Fabric of Our Lives' song and marries it with fashion and versatility so it appeals to a whole new generation of cotton wearers," says Cassandra Anderson, Creative Director at DDB.

Cotton Incorporated, funded by U.S. growers of upland cotton and importers of cotton and cotton textile products, is the research and marketing company representing upland cotton. The Program is designed and operated to improve the demand for and profitability of cotton.

Russian Fashion Week Cuts Agenda Due to Crisis

Russian Fashion Week Cuts Agenda Due to Crisis

MOSCOW, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Following fashion weeks in New York, Paris and Milan, Russian Fashion Week announced in Moscow it has shortened its Fall/Winter 2009/2010 season schedule this week. Russian Fashion Week (RFW) will commence on March 29 - April 4, 2009 in the Congress Hall of the World Trade Center in downtown Moscow. The most renowned fashion event in Eastern Europe, RFW will host approximately 50 shows of the best Russian and Ukrainian designers with insets of French, Italian and Spanish names.

Watch out for Evgenia Ostrovskaya at the Russian Fashion Weeek

"In peak seasons RFW had 65-75 shows, but this season we see a decrease in the number of participants," says Alexander Shumsky, President of Russian Fashion Week. "As is the case in Paris and Milan, a lot of designers prefer to make presentations instead of full fashion shows. The fashion markets are down, so brands and designers need to reduce expenses."

Russian Fashion Week is known for being the gateway to the Russian market. A number of international fashion designers staged their collections on RFW runways, including Vivienne Westwood, Julien Macdonald, Jenny Packham, Francesco Smalto, Frankie Morello, La Perla and Baby Phat, just to name a few. Designer rental fees for RFW catwalks are 4 to 5 times less than the smallest venues at fashion weeks in Milan or New York, but the total production costs of fashion shows in Moscow still remain consistent for most of the local designers.

The schedule of the upcoming Russian Fashion Week includes 48 shows, which marks almost a 20% fall compared to the October 2008 event. "Good news is that all key names of Russian fashion stay on the RFW catwalk this season," states Alexander Shumsky.

The renowned Russian fashion designer Slava Zaitsev will open RFW with his haute couture collection dedicated to the 100 Year Anniversary of Dyagilev's Seasons in Paris. Slava Zaitsev is a real Soviet/Russian fashion legend, known as Red Dior by international media.

The Russian Fashion Week schedule will include the most famous and edgy Russian designers: Arngoldt, Tatiana Parfionova, Julia Dalakian, Elena Souproun, BIRYUKOV, Poustovit, Cyrille Gassiline, Viva Vox, Xakama, Masha Sharoeva, Chistova&Endourova, TEGIN, Yulia Nikolaeva, MainAim, Personage, Liudmila Norsoian, and more. The international flavor will be added by Spanish designers Toni Francesc and Maria Lafuente, and Italians Leitmotiv, BeeQueen and a.VE. The collective Italian fashion show is a part of long-term cooperation between Russian Fashion Week and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. "Russia is a key destination for Italian fashion," says Mario Boselli, President of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. "In 2009 we take the next step in our relations despite the crisis."

Celebrated French designer Jean-Charles De Castelbajac will make his RFW debut on March 29.

Russian Fashion Week is acknowledged as the #1 fashion event in Russia; it attracts over 50,000 guests seasonally, with over 1,000 journalists and buyers. Russian Fashion Week's shows reach millions via live broadcasting on World Fashion Channel.

Spring Essentials for the Frugal Fashionista

Prime Outlets Presents the 2009 Ultimate Guide to Spring Fashion Savings

BALTIMORE, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- It's that time of the year again, ladies, and every fashionista's spring cleaning should start with her wardrobe! Give your closet a budget-friendly makeover this season with the ultimate guide to this year's spring fashion essentials from Celebrity Stylist Mark-Alan Harmon and the frugal fashionista shopping haven, Prime Outlets.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090303/PH77310 )

According to Harmon, style sensei to Hollywood elite for more than a decade and a regular contributor to Style Network, E! and CNN Showbiz Tonight, reorganizing and updating your closet each season is the best way to determine which pieces you'll need to refresh your look.

"It's important to look through your wardrobe and evaluate the items you'll need and want for the season," said Harmon. "Knowing what you have, what you need, and which trends you'd like to follow will help you put together a list of must-haves for a modern, trendy closet within your budget."

Another key factor to maintaining a fashion-forward wardrobe, according to Harmon, is knowing where to shop and how to get the most for your money, citing the outlets as the place where women have direct access to compelling collections of designer and brand-name apparel while minding their wallets.

"We are the shopping venue of choice for the frugal fashionista," said Senior Vice President of Marketing Karen E. Fluharty of Prime Retail. "In today's economy, shopping Prime Outlets is simply the smart choice. Our shoppers know they'll find great designer and name-brands at a fraction of the cost."

At everyday savings of up to 65 percent off full retail prices, Prime Outlets' shoppers have complete access to style icons including Michael Kors, kate spade, COACH Factory, Giorgio Armani General Store, Gucci, Juicy Couture, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Barneys New York and BCBGMAXAZRIA.

For a fresh, fashionable wardrobe this season Harmon and Prime Outlets suggest the following Spring Essentials for the Frugal Fashionista:

1. Bold & Bright- This is the year of hope. Vibrant colors hit the catwalk this season urging fashionistas to leave the dreary winter months behind them. Shades like fuchsia red, palace blue and lemon yellow are sure to evoke feelings of optimism and bliss, so push those winter blacks, browns and grays to the back of your closet! Freshen your look with signature pieces such as a vibrant green sundress or cotton candy pink shoes.

2. Little White Dress- This season is all about the Little White Dress (LWD). Complementing the simplicity of the Little Black Dress, the LWD can be simple and classic or a more glamorous choice in various lengths and sheer fabrics. Embrace the trend by pairing a ruffled LWD with strappy sandals and glamour shades.

3. Cinch it Up- Forget low-rise. This spring high-waisted pants, shorts and skirts will define the reclaimed feminine silhouette. Look for simple lines and oversized belts to help achieve this cinched waist look that accentuates an hourglass figure.

4. Python Pretty- Slither your way into a fashionable spring with exotic reptilian accessories. Tempt your animal instincts with a real or faux luxe python handbag, snakeskin platforms and whipsnake bangles. Known for its color variations, be sure to look for python in a variety of distinctive colors to complement your wardrobe.

5. Cultural Couture- A melange of exotic, embellished and luxe, bold tribal prints and textures reign supreme this spring. Mix and layer culturally-inspired patterns, add ornate necklaces and piled-on bangles and finish the look with earthy, wooden wedge platforms.

Hurley announces "Microphone for Youth" global t-shirt design competition at the dynamic fashion runway showdown

Los Angeles, February 26 /PRNewswire/ — Sports Illustrated 2009 Swimsuit Issue cover model Bar Refaeli joined Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, Robert Buckley of Lipstick Jungle and Frankie Delgado of MTV's Bromance and The Hills at House of Blues Anaheim last night to judge Walk the Walk, a fashion design competition developed by Hurley to inspire creativity and confidence among future generations.

Refaeli and the star-studded panel of judges that also included Hurley founder Bob Hurley and Rosemary Brantley of OTIS College of Art and Design watched a parade of Hurley collections that had been redesigned by area high school students. The theatrical shows, which at times looked more like dance-offs, were modeled, produced and promoted entirely by student teams.

Of four competing schools, Fountain Valley High School took home top honors and a $5000 donation to its art & music program. Gahr High School won a special design challenge and could see their two original head-to-toe designs featured in a future Hurley collection.

The evening also served to launch the Hurley Microphone for Youth t-shirt design competition, a platform for young people to express themselves creatively and win exciting prizes. Now through March 30, aspiring designers and artists can upload their artwork to www.Hurley.com and the public can visit the site to vote for their favorite. The designer of the winning t-shirt will be announced on April 1, 2009 on Hurley.com and will receive $5,000 and see their design sold through Hurley's online store.

Refaeli, a face, voice and spirit of Hurley, will choose her favorite design and that winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles in June to meet Bar and Hurley team athletes, and attend Hurley Walk the Walk Grand Championship.

About Hurley: Founded in 1999, Hurley is a leading youth brand rooted in surf, skate, art, music and beach cultures. Cameleon voted "Top Innovator" by Apparel Magazine

GREENFIELD, Ind., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- If Kristina L. Jones wrote a book, it might be called "When Fashion Met A Motorcycle."

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080512/NYFNST03)

For now, though, Jones is content to be the owner of Cameleon Power-Sport Apparel, a company out to show that women who ride motorcycles can stay safe and look good at the same time.

"All of the apparel in the Cameleon Power-Sport line must be functional on a motorcycle, and transition women into the many other environments they move through each day," says Jones, who started Cameleon out of frustration as much as anything else.

The Indianapolis entrepreneur is an avid motorcycle rider who performed an endless search for stylish protective apparel and fashionable clothing to wear on her rides. Necessity became the mother of invention.

"My goal is to develop figure flattering, fashion-forward protective apparel that allows women to integrate their personal wardrobes into riding motorcycles without compromising safety," Jones says.

Cameleon recently added two products to its growing line, including the Invisible Armor "Slide Pant," which is worn under a woman's jeans or pants. It provides abrasion resistance to key areas vulnerable in a slide.

Top-quality fabrics provide abrasion protection, freedom of movement and comfort in all climates. The "Slide Pant" can be worn separately or paired with the impact/abrasion-resistant Invisible Armor jacket.

There is also Reflections(TM), a new line of shirts under the Ride Safe(TM) brand created by Cameleon. It features designs with regular and illuminating inks. During the day the design is contemporary and suitable for riding or work. At night, when exposed to direct light, the designs illuminate so the words "Ride Safe" are highly visible.

All the tees, tanks, and hoodies in the Reflections line are moisture managing, anti-microbial, and anti-odor, Jones says.

Cameleon has been recognized by Apparel Magazine as one of the 50 most innovative companies in the apparel industry. The company is featured in the magazine's first "Innovator" edition, which was released this month.

Natasha Talks Accessories: A Teen's Guide to Fashion, Clothes, Jewelry and Makeup

29 Nov 2007 11:06 Africa/Lagos

Natasha Talks Accessories: A Teen's Guide to Fashion, Clothes, Jewelry and Makeup

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ --

The easiest way to change your look is through accessories, says Natasha Darras, 16, a rising star on the high school golf circuit in southern California.

"When it comes to fashion, clothes, jewelry and make up, shop inexpensive places and splurge only on important pieces," Natasha says. "I only buy expensive things that I can wear and use for a long time."

Natasha offers some inexpensive ways to update a wardrobe for minimal cost and maximum value.

-- Add scarves. You can wear them on your head, around your neck and
they look great.
-- One quick and easy look that really works is layering your jewelry.
Bargains I find in vintage and thrift stores are my prettiest pieces
and long necklaces look great layered.
-- When wearing short necklaces, just wear one at a time.
-- If you wear a uniform, dress it up with accessories and make sure you
don't break the dress code.

"Makeup has been a hurdle for me," says Natasha. "I think it is really important even though some of my friends don't wear it. They think it takes too much time. Since I like my look to be natural and light, applying just a little can make a big difference and it doesn't take any time at all."

Natasha has learned that buying makeup at the drug store is the best value. Expensive makeup never worked any better for her and the long-lasting lipstick is much cheaper too. Because she likes to experiment, it makes sense to buy 2 or 3 shadows for a few dollars.

She says mascara all works about the same, so she suggests that you save your money and get it at the drugstore too.

"My skin is more normal than perfect. Since I really have to work to have good skin, I spend more and buy the bare mineral type of cover up, base, foundation or powder," says Natasha. "When I use that as a barrier, it keeps my skin from reacting to other products and it allows me to have good looking skin without spending a fortune."
