Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris opens 64th Festival de Cannes

Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris is to open the 64th Festival de Cannes at the same time as it opens in theatres all over France on May 11th 2011.

Midnight in Paris, the new film by Woody Allen will open the Festival de Cannes on May 11th in the LumièreTheatre, in the presence of the Jury presided by Robert De Niro.

The romcom, which was shot last year in the French capital, brings together a broad international cast, including Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, as well as Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Gad Elmaleh and Léa Seydoux.
Following London (Match Point) and Barcelona (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), it’s the turn of Paris to be honoured by the lens of the New York film director most appreciated by European audiences.

"Midnight in Paris is a wonderful love letter to Paris", declared Festival director Thierry Frémaux. "It’s a film in which Woody Allen takes a deeper look at the issues raised in his last films: our relationship with history, art, pleasure and life. His 41st feature reveals once again his inspiration."

Produced by Médiapro (Spain) and Gravier Productions (New York), and distributed by Mars Films in France, the film is to be released in France the same day it is screened at Cannes. French audiences will thus be able to enjoy it in 400 theatres throughout the country. For this occasion, the Festival de Cannes wishes, with the consent of its partner Canal+ and the support of the national federation of French theaters, to make the Opening Ceremony of the Festival available to any theatre requesting it, so that their audiences can experience live the entire programme of the Opening Night of the Festival.
In this way, the Festival de Cannes underlines the strong ties that unite it with the theatres and their audiences, and draws attention to the films in the Official selection.

The 64th Festival de Cannes is to take place Wednesday May 11th to Sunday 22nd May 2011.

Viva Riva shines at 2011 AMAA in Nigeria

A scene from Viva Riva.

Viva Riva shines at 2011 AMAA in Nigeria

The thrilling Congolese gangster epic movie "Viva Riva" out shined competitors to win 6 awards from 12 nominations at the 7th Annual African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Sunday night at the Gloryland Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

Riva is a small time operator who has just returned to his hometown of Kinshasa, Congo after a decade away with a major score: a fortune in hijacked gasoline. Wads of cash in hand and out for a good time, Riva is soon entranced by beautiful night club denizen Nora, the kept woman of a local gangster. Into the mix comes an Angolan crime lord relentlessly seeking the return of his stolen shipment of gasoline. Director Djo Tunda Wa Munga’s Kinshasa is a seductively vibrant, lawless, fuel-starved sprawl of shantytowns, gated villas, bordellos and nightclubs and Riva is its perfect embodiment.
~ From South by South West

The film by Congolese director Djo Tunda Wa Munga won the awards for Best Film and Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.
The Ghanaian film “Sinking Sands” won 3 awards, for the Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Make-up.
“Aramotu” won awards for Best Nigerian Film and Best Costume Design.

The Best Actor Award went to Themba Ndaba of South Africa for his role in “Hopeville” and the Best Young Actor was Edward Kagutuzi for “Mirror Boy”.

How long can a player truly get away with a lie?

30-day rule is a romantic comedy with a message that nothing in life comes without a cost. Rome, a good-looking smooth-talking brother in his mid-twenties feels he is on top of the world. He believes he can talk any woman he meets into doing what he wants them to do. He lies, schemes and cheats all in the name of scoring and feels no guilt about his actions. Best friend Trent advises Rome that there is a 30 day expiration date on the lies he tells woman and that no good will come of his evil ways and eventually he will meet his match. Enter Katina, the beautiful vixen Rome is captivated by simply because of her beauty. Unbeknownst to Rome, Katina is the female version of himself, however her feline ways give her the unfair advantage as he under estimates her agenda because of her beauty.

Sit back and enjoy the ride as both Rome and Katina learn some very important lessons that have comedic consequences and repercussions for both sides.

Farewell American Rose

Farewell American Rose
(For Elizabeth Taylor)

Farewell American Rose
We will surely miss you.

You dazzled millions of souls
With your beautiful violet eyes
And with your charming smiles
You held many lovers captive in Hollywood.

Many said you took the primrose path
Looking for your Prince Charming
But only God knows if you found him
In any of the seven men you married.

I will always light a candle for you
On your birthday and your last day
The candle light will glow in my heart
Illuminating unforgettable memories of you.

Farewell American Rose
We will surely miss you.

Young and Mobile: A Global View of Cellphones and Youth

Nielsen’s new whitepaper on Mobile Youth Around the World reveals that most young people with mobile phones chose their own device. In fact, across all the countries surveyed, only 16 percent of young people reported that their parents selected their mobile phone. Price was the most common consideration among youth in selecting a mobile phone, though that is true among other age groups, too. Youth aged 15 to 24 in all countries surveyed put price as the first purchase driver, with the exception of Russian youth, 21 percent of whom placed design/style first. (Some grown-ups care about design, too. Around 14 percent of Brazilian adults say design/style is the most important consideration, compared to seven percent of U.S. adults.)

Hero Dog Awards™ Kicks Off in Hollywood

American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards™ Kicks Off in Hollywood
CESAR® Canine Cuisine Joins the Search for America’s Top Dogs

HOLLYWOOD, CA, March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Is your dog a hero? American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards™ national search kicks off today at www.herodogawards.org.

The Film & Television Unit of American Humane Association is heading up the search for America’s Hero Dogs. Dogs may be nominated in eight categories: Law Enforcement and Arson Dogs; Service Dogs; Therapy Dogs; Military Dogs; Guide Dogs; Search and Rescue Dogs; Hearing Dogs; and Emerging Hero Dogs. Finalists in each category will be selected by the public from the pool of contestants, and the winners will be announced at the first-ever American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards™ celebrity gala, presented by CESAR® Canine Cuisine, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California on October 1, 2011.

The Hero Dog Awards recognize the powerful relationship between dogs and people and celebrate the many benefits of animals and people sharing their lives together. “Championing American values of caring, compassion and hope, the Hero Dog Awards celebrate the animals we love and the people who interact with them on a daily basis,” says American Humane Association President and Chief Executive Officer Robin R. Ganzert, Ph.D. “This national signature event for American Humane Association helps to elevate the status of animals in society by honoring that inextricable link between animals and people, strengthening the human-animal bond.”

According to Karen Rosa, Senior Vice President of the Film and Television Unit, “Dogs are an inseparable part of our everyday lives. We work to protect animal actors and animal athletes in more than 2,000 monitored film and television productions every year through American Humane Association’s Film and Television Unit. The Hero Dog Awards allow us to recognize the contributions to society of many other dogs, including therapy dogs working with children in hospitals, military dogs protecting U.S. soldiers abroad, and even dogs who learn to detect cancer in people, saving human lives. As search and rescue dog teams are dispatched from across America to help people in areas devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, we recognize most vividly how important it is to pay tribute to our dog heroes.”

Launching today, it is free to nominate a dog in one of the eight categories at www.herodogawards.org. Nominations close on May 31, 2011, and voting by the general public will begin on June 1, 2011. Finalists in each category will be judged by a blue-ribbon panel consisting of both celebrities and animal experts,>to determine the winning American Hero Dog. All of the finalists will be flown to Hollywood, where they will walk the red carpet and be recognized in a moving video tribute at the black-tie awards show on October 1, 2011 when the winning American Hero Dog will be announced. Seventeen participating charities have a chance to receive a share of $50,000 in grant prizes awarded by the Hero Dog Awards to recognize the work of the organizations. Charities include Canine Companions for Independence, United States War Dog Association and the National Association for Search and Rescue.

“We are thrilled to team up with American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards™,” said Tierney Monaco, director for CESAR® Canine Cuisine. “Because of our shared belief that having a relationship with a dog can improve every life, we are working together to spotlight the thousands of dogs giving comfort to people in need every day.”

CESAR® Canine Cuisine and American Humane Association have joined together to spread the love through the Hero Dog Awards. As the Official Canine Cuisine of the Hero Dog Awards, CESAR® Brand is bettering thousands of lives by providing more specially trained Animal-Assisted Therapy dogs to people who need them. Eva Mendes, the New Face of Angel by Thierry Mugler

PARIS, March 18, 2011/PRNewswire/ –

- Thierry Mugler Proudly Heralds the Newest Angel Icon to Join his Celestial Stars

To begin a new chapter in his galaxy, the legendary designer and master perfumer has once again chosen an international star to represent this iconic scent. Strong one moment and demure the next, both femme fatale and spontaneous, Eva Mendes personifies the very facets of sensuality encompassing Angel.

While Naomi Watts’ ethereal beauty embodied the angelic aspect of the fragrance, Thierry Mugler chose to reignite the enticing and explosive dimensions of the fragrance with the sultry Mendes.

Though her obviously flawless physical beauty is in perfect harmony with the artist’s aesthetic canon – Ms. Mendes mesmerized Mugler with her independence, determination and humor.

From her attention grabbing performance in ‘Training Day’ (Antoine Fuqua) to ‘We Own the Night’ (James Gray), this young American has gone on to undertake many other prestigious roles (The Other Guy, Hitch…), working with the greats Frank Millier, the Farrelly brothers to name a few. There is not a role Eva Mendes cannot play, from drama to comedy, independent films and blockbusters. Her most recent film, ‘Last Night’ (Massy Tadjedin) with Guillaume Canet, Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington, released in 2010.

About Angel

Beware of Angels

In 1992, when he launched Angel, his very first perfume, Thierry Mugler chose Estelle Lefebure. Perched atop a New York skyscraper, wearing a black suit and enveloped in a blue muslin scarf, she began the saga that Jerry Hall continued in 1995 dressed in a silver gown on the immaculate dunes of White Sands National Park in New Mexico.

In 1998, Amy Wesson embodied a crystal angel echoing of the most beautiful icon of all: Angel and its star-shaped bottle. Next was Anna Maria Cseh’s dizzying portrayal in 2003, about to go over the edge, surrounded by the chaos of night, fervently protecting her precious perfume.

In 2006, the Angel legend continued with Bianca Balti, hypnotized by her own reflection after having put on the heady fragrance. In 2008, Angel reconnected with its original magic in a contemporary fairy tale interpreted by the beautiful Naomi Watts.

In 2011, a new angel appears with Eva Mendes.
