The Umbilical Cord of the Word

The Umbilical Cord of the Word

Finally, whatever is spoken
Comes in various sounds of various voices
And whatever is written
Comes in various letters of various sentences
And the messages come in various languages
Messages and languages for various ages
But everything spoken or written begins with a word
And the word will remain till the end of the world.

For by the word came forth various religions
By the word came forth various constitutions
The constitutions for various nations
And by the word we have wrought various inventions
Both the right ones and the wrong ones
By the word of mouth the best and worst things have been spoken
By the word the greatest promises have been made and also broken.

What then shall we say of the word?
Is it good or is it bad?
Is it a blessing or a curse to us?
Is the word not like the clay in our hands?
For what can the clay do without the potter?
What can the pen do without the writer?
For no matter what has been said and done
By we who are here and by those who have gone
The word is whatever we do with it
So, do not blame the word, for the word is innocent.
