Kate Winslet has come of age. The down-to-earth British star, one of cinema’s most acclaimed actors and a proud champion of real curves and onscreen nudity, meets life head on.
It’s more of a guttural bellow than a laugh when something strikes Kate Winslet as funny. And in an instant, she has you in the palm of her hand. “Oh my God, that’s so great. That’s so great,” she says, her voice escalating. This highly animated response is prompted by the suggestion she may have single-handedly caused American actresses to get naked onscreen. Namely Elizabeth Olsen, the latest ingénue-on-the-rise, and even the more seasoned Eva Mendes have cited this British Oscar-winner as their enabler when it comes to performing nude. “Really?” she says, thoughtfully. “Right on.”
