"Storytelling is the DNA of Disney dreams and we're always exploring new ways to tell new stories in new places," Rasulo told a crowd at the Anaheim Convention Center in California before taking them on a "behind-the-magic" tour of their favorite Disney destinations.
Rasulo announced that a new 3-D version of the tremendously-popular "Star Tours" attraction will debut at the Disneyland Resort and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2011. Based on the iconic Lucasfilm "Star Wars" films, the attraction will include immersive new elements that will take guests to many familiar places in the Star Wars galaxy.
For Walt Disney World in Florida, Rasulo outlined plans for the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom, vastly increasing the size of Fantasyland by 2013. Guests will soon be able to:
-- Visit their favorite Disney Princess in her castle, cottage, or
chateau to share a dance with Cinderella; celebrate Sleeping Beauty's
birthday with the Good Fairies; or join Belle in an enchanting story
performance in the Beast's castle library.
-- Be Our Guest and dine in one of three enchanted rooms inside the
Beast's castle.
-- Fly with Dumbo high above brand new circus grounds, twice the size of
the existing attraction with a new interactive, three-ring circus
tent.
-- Journey under the sea with Ariel, The Little Mermaid, in her very own
attraction - also opening at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim
in 2011.
-- Meet Tinker Bell and her friends in the magical world of Pixie Hollow.
Rasulo provided updates on the multi-year expansion of Disney's California Adventure including the new "World of Color" attraction slated to open in the spring of 2010 and the addition of the 12-acre Cars Land scheduled to open in 2012 where guests will literally step into the town of Radiator Springs and its six acres of hand-carved rockwork.
Rasulo noted the progress of several other recently-announced projects including the three new lands coming to Hong Kong Disneyland by 2014; the Disney Dream, the new ship being built by Disney Cruise Line; the many diverse itineraries being offered by Adventures by Disney that take guests on 19 unique, once-in-a-lifetime guided vacation experiences; and Disney's first family destination resort on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Rasulo's keynote presentation was only part of the D23 EXPO experience. Guests were able to discover:
-- Never-before-seen models of upcoming Disney attractions.
-- Up close and personal visits with Lucky the Dinosaur and Wall-E.
-- A preview of the most advanced Audio-Animatronics figures ever created
by Walt Disney Imagineering.
-- Displays showcasing cutting-edge effects technologies that are being
developed for Disney attractions, shows and venues.

Video: The Department of Health and Human Services Teams Up With The White House and the Ad Council To Launch New Fatherhood Public Service Campaign
PSA Features President Barack Obama Encouraging Fathers to 'Take time to be a dad today' www.fatherhood.gov.

NEW YORK, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for Father's Day weekend, the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius announced a new public service campaign today promoting fatherhood that features a PSA by President Obama. The campaign, sponsored by the Department's Administration for Children and Families and the Advertising Council, can be found at www.fatherhood.gov. The public service announcements and supporting campaign materials are designed to remind fathers of the critical role they play in their children's lives.
To view the Multimedia News Release, go to: http://prnewswire.com/mnr/adcouncil/38852/
In the opening PSA of the campaign, President Obama calls fatherhood "the most important job in a man's life." "Things can get busy, and sometimes we all fall short," he says, "but even the smallest moments can have the biggest impact on a child's life. Take time to be a dad today."
"Sometimes the simplest, smallest things can make a huge difference in a child's life," said Secretary Sebelius. "As the country gets ready to celebrate Father's Day, the President and the Administration are committed to encouraging and supporting efforts by parents and mentors to reach and connect with kids. The Department has a multitude of resources available at fatherhood.gov and we will be working closely with the White House to support their Fatherhood events and outreach in the coming days and weeks."
The announcements, scheduled to begin airing across the country on Father's Day weekend, are part of a media campaign to promote and encourage responsible fatherhood sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families.
They are the work of the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, the Ad Council and the Campbell-Ewald agency of Detroit. To date, three television and six radio PSAs have been produced, in addition to multiple print, web and viral ads.
The PSAs encourage fathers to visit www.fatherhood.gov or call 1-877-4DAD411 for parenting tips and additional resources for fathers. To view the ads, visit www.fatherhood.gov or www.adcouncil.org.
"President Obama's involvement in the campaign is a continuation of the commitment he has shown to strengthening fatherhood. As our nation's 'First Dad,' President Obama's words are sure to be an inspiration this Father's Day and beyond," said Roland C. Warren, Media Campaign Director for the NRFC.
"We are delighted to join President Obama and Secretary Sebelius for this poignant campaign as we recognize all fathers nationwide this Sunday," said Peggy Conlon, President & CEO of the Ad Council. "I believe these PSAs will encourage more fathers this weekend and throughout the year to take an active role in their children's lives."
According to the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC), an estimated 25 million children live without their biological fathers and are on average at least two to three times more likely to be poor, to use drugs, to experience educational, health and emotional and behavioral problems, to be victims of child abuse and to engage in criminal behavior than their peers who live with their married, biological (or adoptive) parents. Children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior and avoid high-risk behaviors.
"We consider it an honor to work on behalf of the NRFC," said Bill Ludwig, Vice Chairman, Chief Creative Officer of Campbell-Ewald. "We are very proud that our work informs so many American families about the impact of a father's presence in a child's life and has inspired fathers to simply spend time with their kids. Having the support of President Obama magnifies the attention and the inspiration of this critical message."
Since its launch in 2008, the NRFC's Father Involvement campaign has received more than $38 million in donated media across television, radio, out-of-home, Internet and print.
HHS
Through the Department of Health and Human Services, the federal government supports responsible fatherhood in diverse ways. Because engaged fathers strengthen families and contribute to healthy outcomes for children, many of our programs integrate support for fathers. These include Head Start, child support programs, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. HHS also supports programs that focus on responsible fatherhood, such as the Promoting Responsible Fatherhood discretionary grant program administered by the Office of Family Assistance.
National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse
The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC) is funded by Administration for Children and Families' Office of Family Assistance's (OFA) efforts to assist States and communities to promote and support Responsible Fatherhood. Primarily a tool for professionals operating Responsible Fatherhood programs, the NRFC provides access to print and electronic publications, timely information on fatherhood issues, and targeted resources that support OFA-funded Responsible Fatherhood grantees. The NRFC Web site also provides essential information for other audiences interested in fatherhood issues. www.fatherhood.gov

Video: Cutera's Pearl Fractional Laser Answers Need for More Youthful Eyes
BRISBANE, Calif. May 27, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Cutera, Inc. (Nasdaq: CUTR), a leading provider of laser and other light-based aesthetic systems worldwide, is driving category innovation with the Pearl Fractional eye treatment. This advanced laser procedure answers growing consumer demand for an aggressive yet affordable solution to what many doctors believe is the top facial aging concern: eyes.
"Pearl Fractional is a unique and outstanding treatment option for the delicate periorbital area, which often shows the first signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat," said Brian Biesman, M.D., medical director of the Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial Surgery, Nashville, TN, and immediate past president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. "The treatment works so well because it delivers very nice skin tightening plus it addresses skin quality – improving tone, texture and discoloration for an overall more youthful appearance."
Physicians traditionally treat photo-damaged skin around the eyes with spot laser treatments and dermal fillers. The new approach, pioneered by Dr. Biesman, not only uses Pearl Fractional around the eyes, but directly over the eyelids and under the eyes too.
Dr. Biesman notes that the procedure is especially popular with patients who are approaching a milestone. "A lot of my patients come to me on the 4s and the 9s – 34, 39, 44, 49," he said. "My patients are very pleased that they see immediate, noticeable improvement in a single treatment, with very little recovery time."
Pearl Fractional, utilizing a specialized patented 2790 nm wavelength, received FDA clearance in 2008 and offers physicians a new and beneficial approach to resurfacing the skin. As with all aesthetic procedures, patients should consult a physician experienced in aesthetic laser procedures to ensure that their treatment is safe and effective.

Jennifer Lopez Joins the Fight Against Pertussis in New PSAs
Singer, actress and mother teams up with the March of Dimes and sanofi pasteur to launch national whooping cough education campaign
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. and SWIFTWATER, Pa., April 22, 2009 While most parents can't wait to hear their baby's first babbles and coos, there's a first sound that actress, singer and mother Jennifer Lopez is betting no parents ever want to hear - the sound of their baby with pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough. Ms. Lopez has joined the March of Dimes and sanofi pasteur, the vaccines division of the sanofi-aventis Group, to create a national public awareness campaign called "Sounds of Pertussis."

"Her latest role? Actress, singer, and mother Jennifer Lopez helps launch a new public service announcement (PSA) to raise
awareness about how adults can help prevent contracting and spreading pertussis, also known as whooping cough, to babies. The PSA and more information about the campaign can be found at www.SoundsofPertussis.com."
The new initiative focuses on educating new parents and their families about pertussis, a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease for infants. The campaign's centerpiece is a series of television and radio public service announcements (PSAs) featuring Ms. Lopez that are available in both English and Spanish. The PSAs, scheduled to begin airing nationally this month, encourage new and expectant parents to help protect their babies by making sure that anyone who is, or will be, in close contact with a young infant has been vaccinated against pertussis.
"When I learned that many babies who get pertussis catch it from their parents, and how easy it is for adults to get vaccinated, I was shocked," said Ms. Lopez. "New and expectant parents have so many things to worry about. Getting pertussis themselves, or possibly spreading the disease to their own children, shouldn't be one of them. I felt it was urgent to let parents know how important it is that they get vaccinated against pertussis to protect themselves and to help keep their babies safe from this dangerous disease," she added.
Pertussis Makes a Comeback
Between 2000-2003 and 2004-2007, there was a 100 percent increase in reported cases of pertussis. Estimates indicate that there may be as many as 800,000 to 3.3 million total adult and adolescent cases of pertussis in any given year.
Pertussis is highly contagious and is caused by bacteria which are spread through airborne droplets from the nose and throat. So a cough, sneeze or even talking very close could lead to exposure. In adults, symptoms are usually milder than those found in infants, and pertussis is often mistaken for the common cold or bronchitis. In infants and some adults, pertussis causes severe coughing characterized by the unforgettable "whoop" sound made when gasping for breath after a coughing fit. It creates a sticky, thick mucous that makes it difficult to eat, drink and breathe. The coughing fits can be so violent that infants cannot catch their breath and may turn blue. Pertussis can also lead to other serious complications such as pneumonia, which can require hospitalization. In recent years, 90 percent of pertussis deaths have occurred in infants younger than four months of age.
Because Hispanic babies may be at a higher risk for contracting pertussis, and the risk of dying from pertussis may be higher in Hispanic infants than in non-Hispanic infants, the program is being implemented as a bilingual educational initiative.
"We're very pleased to be working with Ms. Lopez and sanofi pasteur on a campaign that continues the March of Dimes' tradition of championing the health of all babies," said Alan R. Fleischman, M.D., senior vice president and medical director for the March of Dimes. "Pertussis is still prevalent in the U.S. despite routine childhood immunization. Educating parents about the importance of vaccinating themselves and their families to reduce their risk of contracting pertussis and possibly spreading this dangerous disease to infants is an important step in trying to reverse this trend."
Protecting Against Pertussis
While most infants are given routine diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) immunizations, they do not begin the primary series until they are two months of age and may not be fully protected until they have completed their primary series of vaccinations with three or four doses. During this time, they are vulnerable to pertussis. Accordingly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all adults and adolescents 11-64 years of age, especially those who have close contact with an infant, be immunized with a tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) booster. The CDC also recommends that new mothers get the Tdap vaccination in the immediate postpartum period to protect themselves from pertussis and reduce the risk for exposing their infants to the disease.
Adults who received vaccinations when they were children may mistakenly believe that they are still protected against pertussis, but immunity wears off over 5 to 10 years, leaving them vulnerable to contracting and spreading the disease.
"Despite the CDC recommendations, a 2007 survey showed that fewer than two percent of adults 18 through 64 years of age had ever received a Tdap vaccination," said Dr. Fleischman. "It is our goal with this campaign to ensure that all new parents are aware of pertussis and that they speak with their health-care providers about getting vaccinated."
Sounds of Pertussis
The "Sounds of Pertussis" campaign includes specific elements designed to reach the Hispanic population, which is the fastest growing and largest minority in the U.S. All of the PSAs have been created in both English and Spanish, and the campaign also includes a four-part radio novela that will air on Spanish-language radio stations throughout the country.
In addition to educational brochures, the campaign includes components to directly engage parents in helping to educate their friends and families about pertussis prevention for themselves and the babies in their lives. These components include a recorded telephone message and e-mails featuring Jennifer Lopez available for sharing on the campaign Web site. The video PSA also will also be available online for downloading and sharing.
Parents and other caregivers can learn more about pertussis, hear the sound of pertussis, send "Sounds of Pertussis" e-mails to friends and family and view the PSAs by visiting www.SoundsofPertussis.com.
March for Babies®
As part of the "Sounds of Pertussis" campaign, Ms. Lopez is acting as the Honorary Chairperson of the March of Dimes March for Babies 2009 walks, and sanofi pasteur is a national sponsor of the March. The March for Babies takes place the weekend of April 25-26 in more than 900 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Money raised by March for Babies supports community programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies; fund research to help babies begin healthy lives; and provide support to families of babies in newborn intensive care.
"Sounds of Pertussis" booths will be stationed at walks in 25 major cities to help raise awareness of pertussis disease and prevention. These booths will offer information and giveaways to walk participants, as well as continuously show the new PSA. Information about the walks can be found at www.marchforbabies.org.

Video: Cosmetic Procedures Up In All Ethnic Groups Except Caucasians In 2008
Largest Increase In Hispanics, Up 18%, New ASPS Plastic Surgery Statistics Show
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tough economic times may have caused a decline in some areas of cosmetic surgery, but procedures among ethnic patients are up. According to statistics released today by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), ethnic cosmetic procedures increased 11 percent in 2008, with more than 3 million performed, while procedures among Caucasians dropped 2 percent. Cosmetic procedures among Hispanics, the largest and fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S., experienced the greatest growth: up 18 percent.
To view the Multimedia News Release, go to: http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/plasticsurgery/37338/
"We're seeing a rise in Hispanics opting for cosmetic procedures that coincides with the growth we're seeing in the nation's population," said ASPS President John Canady, MD. "Less social stigma, as well as, advances in procedures allow patients to maintain their ethnic look. While the majority of patients continue to be Caucasian, the profile of the typical patient is changing."
Mexican-American Raquel Laurent, 41, recently had an injectable filler and light laser skin resurfacing to refresh her appearance during these tough economic times. "I've always been interested in cosmetic procedures. And, like many people, I'm more willing to invest in something that lasts many months compared to say a vacation. How you look and feel is important, no matter what your ethnicity."
It's no coincidence Laurent opted for the benefits of cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures. In fact, overall, minimally-invasive procedures were up 5 percent in 2008, ASPS statistics show. Minimally-invasive procedures with the largest increases included injectable fillers and facial rejuvenation procedures.
"Laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels can provide tremendous results when done by a board-certified plastic surgeon familiar with ethnic skin," cautions ASPS Member Surgeon Tripti Burt, MD, who performed Laurent's procedures. However, in the wrong hands, these procedures can lead to pigment irregularities and scarring."
Hispanics comprised 10 percent of the 12 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in 2008, with nearly 1.3 million procedures; African Americans made up 8 percent with 910,000 procedures, up 10 percent; and Asians accounted for 7 percent with 866,000 procedures, up 5 percent.
The most commonly requested cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures for all ethnic groups were Botox(R), injectable fillers, and chemical peel.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons in the world. Representing more than 6,700 physician members, the Society is recognized as a leading authority and information source on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. ASPS comprises more than 94 percent of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States. Founded in 1931, the Society represents physicians certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Video: New Children's Storybook Helps Parents Teach Their Children With Asthma About Their Condition

Schering-Plough partners with the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics to tell the delightful story of "Breathless Bethany Buttercup"
KENILWORTH, N.J., March 24, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Asthma is the most common chronic condition among children, with approximately 6.8 million children currently with asthma in the United States.1,2 It accounts for almost 13 million missed school days each year and is the third-ranking cause of hospitalization among those younger than 15 years of age.3,4 With statistics like these, a diagnosis of asthma can often be daunting for parents and children. Parents often struggle with the best way to talk to their children about asthma, and many children with asthma report a desire not to be treated differently from other children.5 To help parents speak with their children about asthma and support children coping with their disease, Schering-Plough Corporation has partnered with the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) to develop a fun, yet educational, storybook, Breathless Bethany Buttercup, that uses a little girl's story about her experience with asthma to provide information about asthma management.
"When my daughter, Danielle, was first diagnosed with asthma, I was in need of a way to help me talk to her about the condition and the importance of using medication to help her feel better," said Julie Driggers of Omaha, Nebraska. "It is great to see that there is now an informative resource like this storybook available for children. This storybook also conveys the seriousness of asthma and highlights the importance of working with your doctor to develop an asthma action plan."
Some children find it difficult to accept an asthma diagnosis, which makes the role of a parent all the more vital. According to a 2007 study published in the journal Pediatric Nurse, it is important for parents to talk to a physician about ways to build their child's self-confidence and prevent them from feeling stigmatized when they display difficulty coping with their asthma.6 Parents should also monitor their child's asthma and continue to work with their child's physician to determine an appropriate asthma management plan.7
"We're excited to collaborate with Schering-Plough on the development of an asthma storybook for children," said Nancy Sander, founder and president of the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics. "The number one reason why parents call our organization is to find answers to questions about medications and how to help their children to take them as prescribed. Breathless Bethany Buttercup provides the perfect forum for parents and children to talk about asthma and how to manage their condition."
Breathless Bethany Buttercup was written by Tolya Thompson and illustrated by Curt Walstead. With playful rhymes and colorful illustrations, the storybook appeals to early elementary school-aged students and parents can order a free copy through Schering-Plough and the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics. For more information or to receive your own copy, visit www.asthmastorybook.com or www.breatherville.org.

Video: Infinity Dance Theater Presents 'Body of Work: 50 Years of Dance with Kitty Lunn' May 28-31 at Joyce SoHo
Program features works by Peter Pucci, Heidi Latsky, Carla Vannucchi, Robert Koval, and Kitty Lunn
NEW YORK / Monday, March 23 / PRNewswire/ — Kitty Lunn will present her Infinity Dance Theater, a non-traditional company for dancers with and without disabilities, in new works by Peter Pucci, Heidi Latsky, Carla Vannucchi, and Ms. Lunn, along with an Infinity favorite by Robert Koval from the company's first season in 1995. Performances will be held May 28-31 at Joyce SoHo.
For Kitty Lunn, the season will be a celebration of 50 years in dance. The New Orleans native started dance classes as a child and performed with several companies, including the Washington Ballet, where she danced in Swan Lake, Giselle, Les Sylphides, The Nutcracker, and the full company repertory. Lunn moved to New York in 1967, and in 1987 while preparing for her first Broadway show, she was injured in an accident which left her paraplegic. Determined to show that dancers can move in a multitude of ways, Lunn founded Infinity in 1995 to expand the boundaries of dance and change the world's perceptions of what a dancer is. In addition to regular New York seasons, the company's schedule has included appearing at festivals in Italy, two seasons at the Kennedy Center in D.C., and the 1996 Cultural Paralympiad in Atlanta. Lunn is also active as an actress on stage and TV (including a long stint on "As The World Turns"), a dance educator and an advocate for people with disabilities.
For its Joyce SoHo season, Infinity has commissioned a work from brilliant Italian choreographer Carla Vannucchi, who has worked with the companies of William Forsythe and Pina Bausch, and is a master teacher of Horton and Graham techniques. For Ms. Lunn, she has created Portrait of Frida, which explores the relationship of Frida Kahlo to her paintings. Set to music by Carlos Chavez, the solo adds paint and canvas to the dance.
Acclaimed choreographer Peter Pucci returns to Infinity with Lead Me Home, featuring Kitty Lunn and her husband, actor Andrew Macmillan. The concept of this new work began as a tribute to Ms. Lunn's father, who passed away just prior to the company's 2006 season. As the piece developed, it began to encompass the 50 years of her love affair with dance, as well as her relationship with her husband and with her chair. The piece will feature live Celtic harp and Gaelic vocal as a tribute to her father's Scottish roots.
The program's third premiere is The Empty Tomb by Heidi Latsky in collaboration with Kitty Lunn. Ms. Latsky, a former principal dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, was called a "choreographer and dancer of uncommon intelligence and fluidity" by Jennifer Dunning (The New York Times). Set to the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi and ancient Aramaic chant, the piece focuses on Mary Magdalene's journey on Easter morning, depicting a woman of great personal strength who mourns the incredible loss of a beloved one and discovers faith, peace, and hope in the wake of extreme brutality.
A fourth premiere entitled Water/Fire, choreographed by Ms. Lunn, features an original score composed and performed live by the acclaimed percussionist William Catanzaro, with additional percussion by Jerome Morris. Water/Fire reflects the ways in which human bodies, some with and some without disabilities, work with and amongst one another in and out of harmony and balance.
To convey Infinity's diverse spectrum of dance, the company will revive After All, founding member Robert Koval's stirring work about love, loss and loyalty in relationships. After All was commissioned by and premiered at the 1996 Cultural Paralympiad in Atlanta.
Infinity Dance Theater is supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; The Shubert Foundation; the Fund for Creative Communities/NYSCA, administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; The Harkness Foundation for Dance; and other generous contributors.

"...a marvelous creature, an exquisite dancer with an upper body of seamless fluidity, a touching emotional tone in her movement quality, and a complete mastery of her instrument. Did I mention that she performs from a wheelchair? She has made a friend and partner of her wheelchair, and the results are both creative and gratifying."
Phyllis Goldman, Backstage
"(Infinity Dance Theater) is the embodiment of Lunn's conviction that the spirit of dance can be just as elegantly expressed in different forms"

Video: Record Number of Patients Seek Laser Treatments to Take Light-Years Off Their Faces
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery 2008 Procedural Survey shows an increase in cosmetic laser treatments
Chicago, IL (March 16, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — New trends reveal that laser technology is steering the future of the cosmetic surgery industry. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), a leader in the cosmetic surgery industry, conducted its annual Procedural Survey and the most notable finding is the shift towards non-invasive laser treatments.
Over the past three years, cosmetic surgeons have seen a significant increase in both males (456%) and females (215%) electing to have laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing is performed with a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser that delivers short bursts of high-energy laser light to minimize wrinkles and lines on the face. In addition, laser hair removal has jumped to the overall number two most performed non-invasive cosmetic procedure.
"Cosmetic surgery technology is advancing at the speed of light," states AACS President Patrick McMenamin, MD. "As we learn more about the cosmetic uses for lasers, the more patients benefit from effective results and quicker recovery time. It is an exciting time for both cosmetic surgery patients and physicians."
Although the economy is struggling, these laser procedures seem to be recession resistant. For instance, laser resurfacing has seen an approximate $450 decline in price since 2002. "As long as these procedures are effective and affordable, their demand will continue to remain steady."
Other notable findings from the survey include:
In 2008, cosmetic surgeons have seen a 29% increase in their female clientele. Despite the economy, women are continuing to invest in their appearances. In addition, cosmetic surgeons have seen a 2% decline male patients proving that when times are tough, cosmetic surgery is the one of the first things men delete from their wish lists.
The top three most performed invasive cosmetic procedures in 2008 include: liposuction, blepharoplasty and breast augmentation; while the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures were Botox® injections, laser hair removal and hyaluronic acid.
The 2008 Procedural Data is based on a survey of U.S.-based AACS members completed in December 2008. The entire report, conducted by RH Research, is available by contacting the Academy.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is a professional medical society whose members are dedicated to patient safety and physician education in cosmetic surgery. Most members of the AACS are dermatologic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, general surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, or ocular plastic surgeons — all of whom specialize in cosmetic surgery. AACS is an organization that represents all cosmetic surgeons in the American Medical Association through its seat in the AMA House of Delegates.

Video: Avon Commits Over $1.75 Million for New Partnerships to End Violence Against Women
AVON COMMITS OVER $1.75 MILLION FOR NEW PARTNERSHIPS TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Establishes new Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School Makes Additional Contributions to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women
Award-Winning Actress Reese Witherspoon Launches New Global Mobilization Efforts
Washington, DC (March 3, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — One in three women worldwide experience violence in their lifetime1, and in the U.S., a woman is assaulted every nine seconds2. Around the world, services for victims are often vastly underfunded or unavailable, and in many countries, laws to protect women do not exist or are not enforced.
In response, the Avon Foundation for Women today announced meaningful new efforts to eradicate violence against women and help ensure justice for all women worldwide. This included a $1.5 million grant by the Avon Foundation for Women to launch the Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School. This new center will focus on working with judges, legal professionals, governmental and non-governmental organizations to improve access to justice in an effort to eliminate violence against women and girls. Avon also expanded its relationship with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) with a new commitment of $250,000 for the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, which will be added to the grant of $1 million awarded in 2008 for the Trust Fund. This brings the total Avon global commitment to ending violence against women to over $14 million to date.
"For over 120 years, Avon has provided women with economic opportunity while serving as a change agent for critical issues that face women worldwide," stated Andrea Jung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Avon Products, Inc. "Lack of financial resources and lack of personal safety are two reinforcing, co-dependent crises. We are so proud to help bring attention to eradicating violence against women and improving access to justice for women and girls, and to award new grants that will help launch initiatives to change lives around the globe."
The announcements of these new initiatives were made by Andrea Jung, who was joined by Stewart Schwab, Dean and Professor of Law of Cornell Law School, during the Global Forum for Women and Justice. Also joining were former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor; Joan Winship, Executive Director of the International Association of Women Judges; and Reese Witherspoon, award-winning actress, Avon Global Ambassador and Avon Foundation for Women Honorary Chairperson. Hosted by the International Association of Women Judges (with support from Avon), the Global Forum for Women and Justice is a two-day meeting held in Washington D.C. of judges and legal practitioners from around the world to address obstacles and solutions to the issue of violence against women.
Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School
The new Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School will undertake four major initiatives, including intensive legal clinical projects, providing legal research for judges, hosting conferences and events, and maintaining an extensive international online library, as well as a discussion forum for judges relating to gender-based violence. The Avon Global Center, which will launch this fall, will serve as a forum for judges and legal practitioners to share ideas and strategies on the role of the judicial system in facilitating access to justice for women victims of violence.
"The Avon Global Center for Women and Justice at Cornell Law School is the first center of its kind to work with judges worldwide in an effort to bring justice to women survivors of violence," said Barbara Holden Smith, Vice Dean of Cornell Law School.
"This is a historic moment. The Center is prepared to address the epidemic of violence against women and girls, and to work toward greater justice for those who have survived such violence."
Avon's Grassroots Mobilization to End Violence Against Women
These new efforts underscore Avon's ongoing commitment to ending violence against women, which includes the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program launched by Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women in 2004. These efforts have expanded to 45 countries, including award-winning Avon programs in Mexico and the Czech Republic. The company is also partnering with local UNIFEM offices on the issue of violence against women in 13 countries. Behind the success of these initiatives are much-needed grassroots mobilization and fundraising, which are assets Avon brings to global philanthropy, driven by the company's network of nearly 6 million Avon Sales Representatives worldwide.
Reese Witherspoon, award-winning actress, Avon global ambassador and honorary chairperson of the Avon Foundation for Women, announced at a press conference before the Global Forum a new Avon fundraising product: the Women's Empowerment Necklace. Launched as a companion piece to the 2008 Women's Empowerment Bracelet, the Necklace is accessibly priced at just $5.00. It will be sold through Avon's Sales Representatives and on www.avon.com. All net proceeds of the Necklace will support domestic violence programs, building upon the $4 million already raised by the Bracelet in one year. In the US every Women's Empowerment product sold will include a free Domestic Violence Resource Guide to increase awareness of this epidemic of violence and encourage everyone to speak out so it stops.
"Nearly a billion women worldwide are affected by violence," explained Witherspoon. "The Empowerment Necklace is an easy way for all women to take action and demonstrate solidarity to reduce the worldwide epidemic of violence against women. As Honorary Chair of the Avon Foundation, as a woman, and as a mother, I am proud to support this effort."
